Maramila is theabbreviation of my name, Maria Mitroula.
I was born in Volos, Greece. Since I was a kid, I had a strong interest in playing with shapes, colors, creating a new object from different materials.
Because of my interest of arts and crafts, I took drawing and photography classes and during my science studies in Technological University of Thessaloniki, I kept taking more photography and also sculpture and pottery classes. Later, I learned the art of stained glass, which captivated me, when I saw the light coming through the transparent colored glasses.
I worked as a freelancer in making stained glass objects (mostly windows) and I came up with the idea to make jewels with this technique. This made me realize that I love making jewelry. So, I studied Jewelry in Technical Institute of Volos. During those studies, I had the opportunity to participate in European jewelry design contests of Silversmith Schools (I was awarded twice), meetings and seminars.
To open my jewelry workshop became my priority. I believe that evolution of ways and practices opensup new horizons. My personal enamel-glass technique is a result of long term process and takes shape in every jewel I make. I believe that every jewel has its own personality, from the moment it is created, it has its personal autonomy. To the back side of enameled jewels I like to engrave a linear motif, like a “linear photo of the moment”.
I hope my creations will give pleasure to your senses!
